Manea is a new visitor centre in the Northland region which will tell the story of Kupe in a unique and compelling experience which combines live theatre with cinematic effects and projections.
Kupe is a larger-than-life figure who features in many maori migration and arrival legends, and who holds a special place in the local history of the area.
The centre will be modelled on a traditional meeting house, adapted to the demands of a high-tech digital theatre and performance space.
It will also include a landscaped sculpture garden, formal powhiri and exhibition display spaces.
The attraction will open mid-2020.
