Located on the remote rural coast of New Zealand’s South Island, we designed an experience based on the kinship between the people of the Catlins and their unique environment situated at the edge of the world – literally. 

A touring web-app and associated interpretive signage lead visitors to the centre, where they can visit The Gateway exhibition. 

Here they can discover the unique history, people and wildlife of the area through interactive screens and maps, before progressing through to an immersive theatre experience designed for multilingual audiences. 

A third gallery allows the visitor to examine rare examples of the petrified forest the area is famous for, and learn in detail stories about the endangered native flora and fauna of the area.

The visitor Centre opened in late 2017.
